It all started with a casual conversation among friends. We were discussing our love for cruising and how passionate the community is, especially on platforms like Facebook. There are hundreds to thousands of active users sharing their experiences every day. That’s when I threw out the idea of creating a cruise ship rating app. Little did I know, that simple suggestion would lead to the development of CruiseStar.
The Journey of Development
Fast forward to the last week or so, I dove headfirst into building CruiseStar. I poured my heart into developing an app that goes beyond just ratings. While many apps exist to rate cruise ships, I wanted to focus on the social aspect. I believe that sharing experiences can enrich the cruising journey, so I made sure that when users open the app, they are greeted with in-app notifications about friends who have sailed recently.
Features That Make a Difference
CruiseStar includes features like group chats where users can discuss the latest trends in cruising. You can click on friends’ profiles to see their timelines and check if you have shared any voyages together. This is where I felt I could really differentiate my app from others. Instead of being just a rating platform, I aimed to create a community.
The Big Launch Plan
Looking ahead, I have a big push planned for September 27th. I’m collaborating with influencers, ambassadors, and bloggers to create a buzz around CruiseStar. The idea is simple: if you hear about something once, it can easily slip your mind. But if you hear it from five different people, it sticks. This compounding effect is something I’m really banking on.
Connecting to a Bigger Vision
I have high hopes for CruiseStar. It’s not just about creating an app; it’s about building a massive database of what’s good and what’s not in the cruise industry. This aligns perfectly with my larger vision for Omnia. I’ve been considering how to create a large platform that houses thousands of users and connects them. CruiseStar could be the bridge to that goal.

As I sit here waiting for approval from the app store while it’s already available on Google Play, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anxiety. Building CruiseStar has been a whirlwind of late nights and early mornings, but I’m proud of what I’ve created. I’ve learned a lot about app development and community building along the way.
